Therapy modes

Six selectable modes: A, H, Ai, Di, H + Di and Ai + A. Channel 1 separates the incoming information through the BICOM® H + D separator filter, with inversion available on Ai and Di, plus amplification, attenuation and bandpass modulation. Channel 2 always runs in mode A, leaving the signal unchanged, with therapy time and amplification adjustable.

Therapy rhythm is either permanent, or interval at three seconds on and one second off.

Frequency range

• Main bandpass range: 10 Hz to 250 kHz, a span of 1:25,000
• Low deep frequency range: 1 Hz to 25 Hz
• Channel 1 with “all frequencies” selected: 1 Hz to approximately 500 kHz, amplitude falling off at the top of the range
• Channel 2: below 1 Hz to approximately 800 kHz, again with falling amplitude at the top
• Bandpass: steep-flank high-order, breadth ±4% of the centre frequency

Bandpass settings

1. All frequencies, 1 Hz to 25 Hz
2. All frequencies, 10 Hz to 250 kHz
3. Frequency sweep, 10 Hz to 250 kHz and 1 Hz to 25 Hz
4. Narrow bandpass of the higher ranges, set by a centre frequency
5. Wobbling bandpass, set by a centre frequency, switchable on and off

Sweep speed runs 3 to 999 seconds in the 10 Hz to 250 kHz range, and 120 to 999 seconds in the 1 Hz to 25 Hz range. Amplification can be held constant, stepped up or down, or swept up or down.

Programs

• Stored programs called up by a 2 to 5 digit number
• Self-stored programs in the range 1000 to 1299
• Low deep programs from number 3000
• Program sequences, several programs combined and stored under a 5 digit number

Inputs, outputs and connections

• Input channel 1 and input channel 2: 2.2 kΩ input resistance, each galvanically decoupled through a buffer amplifier
• Output: 10 kΩ output resistance

Integrated EAP test part

Measurement range 0 to 10 MΩ. On-screen prompts cover the pressure curve, time, timer, probe indicator and EAP volume, with test sound volume set in software and by a hardware slider. Test functions listed by Regumed are the conductance test, quadrant test, acupuncture point test, point therapy, medication test, dental material test, allergy and intolerance test, and current intensity and voltage test. Takes the honeycomb for medication testing and the spin tester.

Operation and displays

Menu-driven, operated by a lit short-stroke foil keypad and two 5 inch resistive touch screens, with control LEDs. AVR processor in the CPU box and an XSCALE processor in the industrial computer. Built-in checks include a battery capacity readout in per cent, an automatic function test for the modulation mat, and cable test equipment for the safety plug cables.

Only original BICOM® accessories may be connected, which is what keeps the device within its class B group 1 limits.

Safety note

Magnetic depth probes and magnetic articulated probes generate magnetic fields that can affect implants such as pacemakers, per IEC 348. The device carries this warning on the rear. Modification of the device is not permitted, and it must not be covered while operating. Read the operation manual in full before use.

Connecting to a PC

Connects by USB to BICOMmultisoft® Pilot, which drives the device from a Windows computer. Current system requirements are set out on the BICOM® multisoft pilot listing.

Regulatory status

The BICOM optima therapy device with EAP test part (B32) is a Class IIa medical device, registered with the MHRA for the Great Britain market. Registration is held through LFH Regulatory Limited of Leeds as UK Responsible Person, and runs to 12 September 2029.

The device is CE marked under directive 93/42/EEC, carried forward under Article 120 of EU MDR 2017/745. Declaration of conformity dated 6 August 2024. Legal manufacturer: AC Aircontrols GmbH, Kempen, Germany.
