The warm temperatures attract humans and animals into nature, but unfortunately, we also encounter some annoying insects that can sometimes plague our pets or farm animals with their stings. Most of the time, these stings leave only a few skin reactions and a slight itching, but sometimes there are significant local or, in rare cases, systemic allergic reactions.
Today, however, we do not want to deal with the severe allergic reactions, but with how we can treat milder allergic local reactions with the help of BICOM therapy. In addition to stings from wasps, bees and hornets, this of course also applies to reactions to mosquitoes (Culicidae, Simuliidae, Tabanidae, etc.), of which around 50 different species are known, and other blood-sucking insects, some of which can also transmit diseases.
In horses, summer itch is common as an allergic reaction to insect saliva, which arises from a combination of genetic components, environmental influences, feeding conditions, etc., and leads to itchy swelling and subsequently chafing. Obesity and lack of exercise, intensive grazing on horse pastures rich in energy and protein, a diet rich in carbohydrates and starch, lack of trace elements (zinc, manganese), leaky gut syndrome, environmental pollution (pesticides, insecticides, ozone, preservatives, glyphosate, heavy metals, etc.), blockages caused by vaccinations or medication and stress are favourable.
Itching and a reddish swelling can be caused by the saliva of the female mosquitoes. Only the female mosquitoes bite and suck blood, the males feed on plant juices. The increasing susceptibility to allergies in recent years may also be related to increasing environmental pollution (insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, etc.). The insects can obviously transmit not only pathogens but also chemical substances etc. during the bite, to which humans and animals can then react additionally. Two years ago, we already pointed out in a newsletter the need to test feed and environmental pollution.
In addition to the usual measures such as cooling, gels, ointments or creams, BICOM can of course also help. The focus here is on programs that are intended to prevent further swelling and local reactions and also to lead to rapid healing. The following recommendations also apply in general to tick bites and other insect bite or bite injuries.
