The “Life” missing since Descartes

Galileo demanded measurement, Descartes demanded division into parts, Newton demanded a cause for everything, and Western thinking still runs that way. This paper argues that between matter and mind, res extensa and res cogitans, something was left out: life itself, res vivens, and what its absence costs medicine.
