In TCM, the liver meridian belongs to the element wood and is closely connected to its YANG partner, the gallbladder meridian. The Wood phase is energetically associated with spring, because just as nature changes in spring, the symptoms are also very changeable. Pain comes on suddenly, changes localisation and symptoms and is often accompanied by restricted movement and paraesthesia.
The external climatic influence is the wind. “Wind diseases” are conjunctivitis, pollinosis, allergic asthma, neurodermatitis (wind accumulation), lumbago, torticollis, facial nerve palsy, apoplexy, rheumatic diseases with changing localisation (wind-humidity), migraine, headaches and aching limbs, severe sensitivity to the weather. Signs of “internal wind” are fever, thirst, sweating, trembling, spasms, muscle tics, cramps, dizziness, unconsciousness, hemiparesis, orientation, coordination and speech disorders.
The extended functional circle of the liver includes muscles, tendons, blood, eyes, nails, nervous system and hormones due to its affiliation with the element wood. The liver energy provides blood and qi, which moisturises the aforementioned areas and ensures the free flow of qi and blood. Without it, any life process would end in stagnation. The most common disharmony pattern is liver qi stagnation, which manifests itself in tension pains that improve with movement. Motor function disorders such as flaccid and spastic paralyses, muscle tics, tension, tendon contractures, epicondylitis, carpal tunnel syndrome or fibromyalgia are signs of liver energy disharmony.
The liver qi and qi of the nails are identical. Disharmonies show themselves in dry, dry, splintering and brittle nails, grooves, depressions and whitish patches. The nail moons are associated with heart yang. Nail biting, like teeth grinding, is an expression of liver qi stagnation.
The liver stores the blood and controls the amount of blood circulating. It is responsible for the timing and quantity of menstruation. The liver is also involved in the conversion of food energy and general detoxification.
The outer course of the liver meridian: it originates with its point Le 1 at the lateral nail fold angle of the big toe, runs upwards over the back of the foot between the first and second metatarsal bones, then over the tibial side of the ankle (Le/LV 4) to the inside of the knee (Le/LV 8).
The liver meridian runs along the thigh in the area of the adductors (Le/LV 10, 11, 12) and then continues upwards on both sides of the lateral abdominal wall at the level of the 11th rib (Le/LV 13) upwards and ends in the medioclavicular line in the 6th intercostal space as point Le/LV 14 point.
The most important indications and points of the liver meridian
- Le/LV 1: works for arthrosis in the meridian course, resolves stagnation. Used for bladder diseases, uterine disorders, redness and swelling of the external genitals and abdominal hernias.
- Le/LV 3: has a calming and analgesic effect on liver problems and calms Qi flow disorders. It is used for urogenital disorders, headaches and menstrual pain, menstrual and sleep disorders, cramps, conjunctivitis, allergies, pain and movement disorders.
- Le/LV 4: has a decongestant effect on urinary retention, localised pain and ankle disorders.
- Le/LV 7 and 8: used for pain in the knee joint.
- Le/V 13: is particularly effective for digestive problems and YIN deficiency and is the MU point (alarm point) of the spleen. For chronic gastroenteritis, swelling of the liver and spleen, tension and a feeling of fullness in the chest and upper abdomen. Inflammation and pain in the muscles.
- Le/LV 14: effective for muscle tension. Liver and stomach problems and is the MU point (alarm point) of the liver. For liver diseases, swelling of the spleen, pleurisy, inflammation and pain in the muscles, the diaphragm region and under the ribcage.
The liver and gallbladder meridians are associated with emotions such as anger, aggression and rage. The liver is the “general” responsible for drive, dynamism and flexibility.
The meridian-related programmes, as described below, can lead to an improvement in the energetic state on the physical-emotional level and contribute to the removal of blockages.
Flooding the liver meridian can help with blockages: this requires the start (Le/LV 1) and end points (Le/LV 14) of the liver meridian on both sides of the body. You will also find a detailed description of these points in your programme manual and/or in an acupuncture atlas.
Meridian programmes
In the bioresonance method we use the meridian programmes:
- Acute liver / chronic liver 310.1 / 311.1 (normal frequency)
- Acute liver / chronic liver 3310.0* / 3311.0* (low frequency)
- Input cup: blood, sputum
- E-applicator (black): button applicator or adhesive applicator on LE/LV 1, on both sides
- A-applicators (red): gold finger or adhesive applicator on LE/LV 14, on both sides
Procedure for stagnation of the liver meridian
- Step 1: release blockage (deep-seated) programme 3017.0, alternatively programme 918.0.
- Step 2: programmes and applicator system from liver meridian programmes as described above, but then …
- Step 3: after the first run, swap the input and output. Input applicator to the starting point (Le/LV 14) and output applicator to the end point (Le/LV 1).
With this procedure, the actual meridian programme runs through twice.
From the test set Combined Test Technique (KTT) 5-Elements, the ampoule “Liver” and/or substance complexes from the category Liver can be applied for stabilisation. From the “Element Wood” for example “Cheleidonium D 6”, “Taraxacum D 6”, “Nux vomica D 6” can also be applied.
Liver function
Attention. Liver function therapeutic: milk thistle (Silybum marianum) promotes cell division, among other things, and is too strong for a diseased, weak and attacked liver.
Better: liver function prophylaxis with Figwort (Opuntia). Prefer extract preparations, e.g. 500 mg extract capsules. Therapeutic effects: hepatocytic convalescence (cirrhosis), hepatic protein biosynthesis increase, hepatic elimination, functional enhancement, liver function equalisation. Human 70 kg bw: 3 x 500 mg / d / as a supplement.
