The heart meridian belongs to the YIN meridians and is therefore located at the front or inside of the body. Its YANG partner is the small intestine meridian. Both meridians, together with the triple warmer and the circulatory (pericardial) meridian, belong to the element of fire.
There is a close relationship to the blood and blood vessels and the tongue. The strongest activity of the heart meridian is between 11 am and 1 pm. According to TCM, the heart is called “the emperor”, partly because the “Shen” (the spirit/consciousness) resides in the heart.
“The heart rules the blood”, which supplies all organs with energy (Qi). The functional circle of the heart thus includes the entire cardiovascular system and also influences the blood vessels (arteries and veins). A sign of balanced heart energy is restful sleep, a well-functioning mind and a balanced perception of feelings.
Sweat is called the “fluid of the heart” and excessive sweating is an expression of “heart-heat” and indicates a blockage in the heart meridian.
The heart meridian has an inner and outer course. The inner course consists of three “branches”. The first branch begins in the heart and ends at the small intestine, the second branch also begins at the heart but ends at the eye. The third branch runs from the heart to the armpit and comes to the surface there with the point He 1 as the beginning of the outer course.
Indications
In BICOM bioresonance as well as in acupuncture, the heart meridian is used for the following indications:
